From 1 - 4 November 2021, CMS held their Patatrack Hackathon in the open space at IdeaSquare. Both newcomers and experts were involved in this in-person hackathon, of which IdeaSquare has hosted a number of successful variations.
The Patatrack Hackathon’s development model has proved to be very successful in the case of the CMS Software, bringing to production readiness many different R&D lines. Fostering networking is key to the success of the Patatrack Hackathons. There is nothing better for a newcomer than an intense one-week long deep dive session with experts!
The 10th Patatrack Hackathon involved 10 participants for this week-long event. This hackathon was focused on improving the performance portability of the CMS reconstruction software for charged particle trajectories. This means that a single source code can be written to then be executed efficiently on very different processors.
