CERN Accelerating science

Using experimentation to boost University-Industry collaboration

Sara García Arteagoitia, coordinator of the NEXT project

Collaboration between universities and industry is essential for transforming academic research into practical innovations that can impact the real world. However, the strategies used to make these collaborations possible have often lacked rigorous testing. This has led to uncertainty about which approaches work best in helping researchers and businesses partner effectively.

ATTRACT: The Socioeconomic Studies showcase their conclusions at the SES Final workshop

ATTRACT: The Socioeconomic Studies showcase their conclusions at the SES Final workshop

The Socioeconomic Studies (SES) seek to enhance the conventional impact metrics and build upon them towards new insights on how to measure the potential of European Research Infrastructures and Innovation Ecosystems (ERI-IEs) like ATTRACT. The goal is to understand what works, why it works, and which mechanisms could be improved.

ATTRACT Pre-Final Conference: meet the 8 Socioeconomic Studies

ATTRACT Pre-Final Conference: meet the 8 Socioeconomic Studies

ATTRACT serves as a catalyst for integrating science into society, transforming innovative ideas into concrete solutions for a better future. This initiative is a collaboration between major research infrastructures, industry leaders, and business experts, aiming to enhance people’s lives by developing new products, services, companies, and jobs.

New insights into Scientists’ Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy within the ATTRACT ecosystem

New insights into Scientists’ Entrepreneurial Self-Efficacy within the ATTRACT ecosystem

Nowadays, the commercialisation of scientific and technological innovations is crucial for economic and social advancement. However, one of the biggest challenges is transforming scientific discoveries into viable market products and services.

Collecting and sharing experiences and findings with the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation

As part of the experimental nature of the innovation activities at IdeaSquare, the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation (CIJ) was launched in 2016. A multidisciplinary publication, CIJ is devoted to the latest research in innovation experimentation, strategic innovation management, knowledge exchange and management, and innovation policy issues.

Gravity Play: A co-creation session on changing risks and policy innovation, via juggling and acrobatics with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre

Gravity Play: A co-creation session on changing risks and policy innovation, via juggling & acrobatics with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre

When it comes to turning knowledge into policy, research shows that showing research doesn’t work. Inaction surrounds us. If we want to go beyond the status quo, we need to actively pursue breakthroughs. The design and implementation of policy development processes needs to deliberately open space for imagination. Given the gravity and complexity of changing risks, we must improve the candour, courage, and creativity of communication, building relationships, enhancing problem solving.
