Launching a new online writing clinic for the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation (CIJ)
We are happy to announce a new recurrent online workshop to guide authors in the writing of their articles for the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation (CIJ), and to answer their questions.
Each last Wednesday of the month, anyone planning to submit an article to CIJ can join the online workshop to ask for guidance on their ongoing research and paper. We asked L. Valtonen, the organiser of these clinics, to tell us more about them.
Can you explain what these CIJ clinics are?
CIJ writing clinics are two-hour Zoom sessions organised once a month for anyone anywhere in the writing process aiming to submit a manuscript for the CERN IdeaSquare Journal of Experimental Innovation (CIJ). They are open and unstructured discussions, focused on asking and answering questions related to the writing and submission process to the journal. The goal is that I can clarify possible confusion, and answer questions people may have about writing for the CIJ as well as to provide an open forum where people can share their insights about the writing process to help and inspire others who are engaged in a similar task.
Why did you decide to organise them?
In the name of connecting people, instead of answering questions about submitting work to the CIJ, I considered it better to host open discussions for all in the same situation, so that people can learn also from each other and possibly get answers to questions from others before they emerge for one's own writing project. Similarly, in the open forums, people become more aware of what others are working on and it is a hope that collaboration opportunities appear through such discussions.
Who can attend a session?
Anyone who is at some stage of intention to submit work to the journal, be it early ideation on a research idea to practical questions about uploading the finished manuscript to the journal's submission portal.
What are the advantages of publishing in CIJ?
There are a few unique aspects of CIJ that together give the journal a special position regarding participating in scientific discussions. First, CIJ has a fast publication cycle with typically manuscript getting published within 3 months. Second, CIJ welcomes early-stage results of research, especially bold research. Together this means that authors get their findings and insights quickly to the field and taken up for discussion. Especially since CIJ is indexed in Scopus and publicised through i2 communications, the work that got early and quickly to the field stays relevant and visible. Thus, even older papers in CIJ with novel ideas are still actively cited in their relevant discussions. CIJ reviewers are also constructive, and since copyright remains with the author, authors get good development ideas and feedback for their work that they can then use later how they see best.
How to know when the next ones will be, and how to register?
It is each last Wednesday of the month 10:00-12:00 CET at Zoom meeting:
