Resistive Plate Chambers (RPCs) are gaseous detectors invented in the 1980s. Since then, they have undergone several generational upgrades while keeping the same basic features: simplicity, economicity, robustness, generous dimensions as well as high time resolution, achieved by exploiting fast discharge processes and cutting edge electronics.
