CERN Accelerating science

Student Visit Season in IdeaSquare

For many industries, the end of the year marks the busiest period. The same goes for us at IdeaSquare, where we have 1 or more student groups booked for every weekday for the rest of the year! Today, we welcome students from Tampere University, Technion – Israel Institute of Technology and The University of the Basque Country. The students are participating in the Design The Future! workshop (https://indico.cern.ch/e/DTF2019) where our very own Dr. Pablo Garcia Tello introduces the students to multiverse thinking. The general objective of this workshop is that the students have fun and learn:

  1. What CERN is by interacting directly with CERN researchers.
  2. How to think disruptively.

Next week, it is time to welcome CBI A3. In CBI A3 (https://indico.cern.ch/e/CBIA32019), students from Hochschule Mannheim (Germany), Pace University (USA), and Swinburne University of Technology (Australia) work in teams to create and prototype ideas for the future that connect CERN technology with 2030 UN Sustainable Development Goals – with particular focus on SDG 3 (Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages). These students will stay with us for 2 weeks, and will spend some time together with another student group, CBI Fusion Point (https://indico.cern.ch/e/CBIFP2019_3) that brings together the Catalan universities of ESADEIED Barcelona and UPC to work on SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).

The final week of the year we will spend with CBI ER (https://indico.cern.ch/e/CBIER2019_1)  students from three Italian universities: University of BolognaUniversity of Modena and Reggio Emilia, and University of Ferrara. Their focus is to explore human-centered methodologies in digital transformation.

All in all we are expecting a fun and busy rest of the year, hopefully filled with innovative ideas! If you are interested to participate in any of the happenings, please don’t hesitate to contact us through our contact form.
